Spring 2007:

Wild Rescue/Rabbit Rescue just finished up the Easter Season, a time when everybody LOVES bunnies and wants to take pictures with them. While we can typically raise about $100 a day (not big bucks) for assisting photographers across the Metroplex, it gives us an up close and personal opportunity to show the humane way to handle animals during photo sessions and explain to people that bunnies are NOT the best pets for everyone and adopting a pet, any pet, requires commitment. We also sell chocolate bunnies to raise a little cash while we are there.

At the Scrapbook Warehouse in Lewisville, President, Diana Leggett, shows Carson and Cole Cooper of Carrollton the proper way to pet a bunny.

One of our volunteers, Karen Hill, has stepped up to the plate and is our adoption coordinator. If you know someone interested in adopting one of our precious rabbits give her a call at 972-393-1983. We have been averaging three to five adoptions a month. Unfortunately for every bunny we adopt out we have two or more rescued. We have heard that other area rabbit rescue groups are turning abandoned bunnies away due to overcrowding. We understand their situation as we are close to capacity ourselves but we honestly don't feel we can turn rabbits away and continue to call ourselves a rescue group. So there in lies the problem. With spring and Easter comes new bunnies and eventually abandoned rabbits. We appreciate your financial support and hope you can continue to think of us throughout the year. We are always open to suggestions for fundraising ideas and would love to know about matching grant opportunities where you work. We also have clear plastic containers that can be placed at veterinarian office, pet stores, or any other business that give us permission. Just let Brenda McGee know and a container will be delivered (Brenda McGee 972-516-1153).

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: If you're interested in helping us out in any capacity, from manning a booth at an event to transporting bunnies to fostering, please contact us and get yourself added to our yahoo group. Right now we have several upcoming events. We will be participating in the Heard Museum's "Green Living" Family Festival April 21st and 22nd in McKinney and the Lewisville PetSmart Adopt-A-Thon May 5th and 6th. On May 12th there will be a Park Bridge Neighborhood Yard Sale. This will be in the common area on Seminary Drive at the corner of Park and Custer in Plano. Rabbit Rescue will have a FREE section there to sell donated items. If you have items to donate or would like to help work the yard sale please call Brenda McGee at 972-516-1153.

We now have a blog, a My Space page, and a Google calendar where you can see what we've been up to. We're always looking for contributions for our sites, so send your bunny pictures and stories today!

We are currently paying RENT ($700.00) for our rabbit sanctuary in LITTLE ELM. If you know of any land (3-5 acres) in Denton or Collin County that could be donated or bought inexpensively please let us know.

Fall 2006:

Dear Friends of Wild Rescue/Rabbit Rescue:

Welcome to WildRescue/Rabbit Rescue, Inc. We hope that you smile and fall in love with the new look for our website and take the plunge in joining us with our mission to rescue and re-home all of the magnificent wildlife and rabbits that come our way. I want to thank all of you who have adopted from us and who have donated to our work over the years. You are who have kept WildRescue and Rabbit Rescue going and have made the lives of north Texas’ wildlife and rabbit companions better. While I have been in San Francisco, Mikael, Greg, and our group have been tireless and outstanding in their efforts to get injured and orphaned wildlife where they need to go, care for baby cottontails, field all of the calls for help, establish Adopt-A-Rabbits on a regular basis, and network all over north Texas (and beyond) to help animals. I cannot thank the volunteers of WildRescue enough for all of their efforts and time -- they are priceless!

As I return to north Texas, my goal to see WildRescue expand its focus and step up to an even bigger plate. In addition to creating a new, permanent, domestic rabbit sanctuary, we are also hoping to establish north Texas's first wildlife center for the care, rehabilitation, and release of native animals. Our most ambitious project is the introduction of a WildRescue storefront where we can not only hold adoptions and sell animal care products and services, but also have seminars on topics from wildlife and rabbit rescue to how to care for your new companion and more. We are all very excited about this new possibility, and I look forward to keeping you informed as we move forward. To find out even more about WildRescue's plans, visit About Our Future. And yes, if you think you would like to help with this project, please contact us!

WildRescue/Rabbit Rescue has a yahoogroup List that are made up of our friends across north Texas that acts as an information email center for what we are currently doing - from animal emergencies to who just got adopted to project updates. If you would like to join our yahoogroup List, please email us at WildRescue. We have a great need for financial supporters, volunteers, grant writers, and much more. By joining our List, you stay on top of developments at WildRescue and can participate on whatever level you feel comfortable with and by doing so help the animals of north Texas in a big way.

I look forward to seeing us grow even bigger and helping even more with the bunnies and wildlife of north Texas. We encourage you to visit PetFinders.com to see who is currently up for adoption. Think about volunteering and then do it. Think about donating and then do it! Raise your level of thinking to a participatory level and remember, they were here first & let's give them a helping hand and a paw up!

Diana Leggett, President
